Getting There

The Empire State Building is easily accessible from Penn Station. Its GPS address is 20 W. 34th Street, located between 5th and 6th Avenues.

You can reach it by taking the 1, 2, or 3 trains to 34th Street/Penn Station, or the B, D, F, M, N, Q, or R trains to 34th Street/Herald Square Station.

If you are coming into the city on Amtrak or New Jersey Transit, the building is just two blocks east of Penn Station.

You can also take the B, D, F, N, Q, or R trains to 34th Street/Herald Square and walk to the building from there, which is located on the east side of the subway station. It is a 5-minute walk from Herald Square.

Alternatively, you can exit at Grand Central Terminal at 456 or 7 and walk to the building, which is about a 10-minute walk from Grand Central.

A Helpful Tip: The entrance to the observatory is located off 34th Street, and is marked by the number 20 above the door and the words “Observatory.” Other entrances on 5th Avenue or 33rd Street are private and not open to the public.
